Employment Opportunity - UCPD Police Officer

The Village of Union City has an immediate opening for a full time Police Officer with the Union City Police Department.  

As a police officer for the Village an employee has many functions such as responding to a variety of citizen criminal complaints, service calls, traffic enforcement, general patrol, crime scene investigations/forensic processing of evidence, making arrests, rendering medical assistance/life saving aid, investigating accidents, transporting arrested and incarcerated subjects, report writing, public relation events, among other duties. Working for a smaller department requires an officer to be skilled in multiple areas, without specialized divisions to rely on, and with non-traditional hours.

A High School Diploma or its equivalent are required for this position, with preference given to candidates with a 2-year Associate Degree, or prior experience in law enforcement. MCOLES law enforcement certification or MCOLES certifiable officer is preferred, but the Village will consider and accept non-certified applicants to be sent through an accredited Police Academy by the Village.

Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to pass a background examination, be at least 21 years of age, be able to successfully complete the employment screening process, which may include oral evaluation, physical and psychological screening. Candidates must be in good health and able to perform the necessary duties. Candidates must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Candidates must possess or be able to pass required training, such as CPR/First Aid, Radar Operations, Breathalyzer Operations, Taser, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and others.

Salary ranges from $42,286.40 to $58,988.80, depending on years of service, certification, and experience. The Village offers an attractive benefits program with paid leave, medical, dental, life Insurance and 457 retirement.
